You can create as many datafiles as you like. We recommend that you use the extension when you name your new datafile to identify Citation datafiles on your disk.

To create a new datafile

  1. Click File, New. Citation will display the Select Form dialog.
  2. Choose the data entry form for the first record in the new datafile, then click OK. Citation will display a blank form.
  3. Complete the form*.
  4. Click File, Save. Citation will display the Save As dialog. Enter a name for the new datafile (with the extension *.dat), then click Save.
  5. You can now choose Edit, Add Record to continue adding records, or File, Close to exit.
Note
Your datafile will be saved in your Citation datafile folder. See Preferences for information on Citation’s datafile directory.

*For help entering records for different types of source works, see the Citation StyleGuide and the General Guidelines for Entering Bibliographic Information.
